Abstract: Liu Kunyi is an very important person in the late Qing Dynasty.There is little research on him,especially on his diplomatic thoughts.The paper probes into the causes of the formation of Liu Kunyi's diplomatic thoug hts from four aspects-the open inter national environment,the influence of friends,research on the West and gradual understanding of international situation.
