Abstract: This paper tries first to analyze, from the perspective of culture, the causes of the worrying condition of students' participation in English classroom activities in China's colleges and universities. Then it proceeds to explain the influence of Chinese traditional culture and the traditional culture of western countries on modern education and it also offers some suggestions on dealing with this problem.
