Abstract: Lin Yutang's early linguistic research included index,dialect and Pinyin,which laid foundation for spreading the spirit of enlightenment in linguistic field and promoted the development of the New Culture Movement. Research on Lin Yutang's early linguistic research may better understand Lin's thinking and the occurrence history of the New Literature.
