Abstract:
Integrated urban-rural development is an inevitable requirement of Chinese path to modernization. General secretary Xi Jinping’s important expositions on integrated urban-rural development, grounded in the overall context of Chinese path to modernization in the new era, has enriched and developed the Marxist view of urban-rural relations. Specifically, in terms of urban-rural relations, it has deepened the theory of urban-rural community and constructed a symbiotic pattern of “harmony but not uniformity” between urban and rural areas. In terms of driving forces for development, it promotes integrated urban-rural development through three major forces: productive forces, reform, and culture. In terms of the laws governing urban-rural development, it scientifically reveals the dialectical unity between the general law of urban expansion and rural relative decline and the special law of long-term coexistence between urban and rural areas. In terms of practical paths, it has formed a path of urban-rural development with distinctive Chinese characteristics. General secretary Xi Jinping’s important expositions on integrated urban-rural development is the latest achievement in adapting the Marxist view of urban-rural relations to the Chinese context and the needs of the times, providing fundamental guidance for promoting integrated urban-rural development and achieving common prosperity in the new era.
