Abstract: The non-party intellectuals are an important force in the construction of Chinese-style modernization. Expanding the paths for their ideological and political guidance is a crucial approach to consolidating the power of the united front. Taking the provincial capital cities in central China as examples, through interviews, investigations and analyses of the non-party intellectuals, it is found that under the new situation, non-party intellectuals are faced with such problems as complex identity composition, strong regional mobility, diversified ideological consciousness, weak consensus foundation and indistinct characteristics of political parties and circles. They bring challenges to the ideological and political guidance work for non-party intellectuals. In view of this, paths being put forward such as classified political discipline, cultural integration, carrier radiation and interest guidance can improve the effect of their ideological and political guidance, pool a larger and broader force of non-party intellectuals, and work together for the construction of socialism with Chinese characteristics for modernization.
