Individual Freedom and Social Freedom in the view of Marx

  • Freedom is a value that human beings commonly seek.Over a long period of time, there have been two opposite views of how to deal with the relationship between individuals and society. In the Chinese circle of thoughts and ideologies, the nucleus of the traditional moral is the whole, which is the carrier of individuals. While in the western society,it is individual freedom that is highly valued and advocated. In contrast,Marxism holds that a human being is not only an individual, but also represents the whole,i.e.,a unification of both. Therefore, society should acknowledge and protect individual freedom, and place his freedom in social common interests, such that each social member enjoys fundamental freedoms equally.
