Abstract
After the Western Europe entered the Middle Ages, the civil war of the late Roman Empire and the longterm turbulence caused by the migration of the Teutons had resulted in the barren land, backward technology and longtime stagnation of economic development. It is the Catholic Church that took the lead in cultivating land, spreading production technology and constructing public facilities to promote the rejuvenation of the economy.
