Note on the Word “Xie”

This paper analyses the shape of Xie reflected in the ancient Chinese character carved on tortoise shells and animal bones and finds that the form meaning is that a hand takes a tool and puts it into fire,that is to say,people are doing heat treatment in the course of making tools.
