On the Ball Culture in the Ancient Times——From the Perspective of Cultural Function

This paper explores the appearance,the function and value of ball in the ancient times form the perspective of cultural function. The germination and development of the ball was the process of satisfying people's needs and living practice.In the primitive society,people's need for ball came from hunting,thus having the value of people's pursuit for survival.The ball game,whether in China or in the western countries,originated in the ancient times,had something to do with the children's game.As for the competitive ball sport,the ball appeared earlier than that in China and had much more functions.Towards the late middle ancient times,the western ball sport was inclined to competitive development while it developed towards the game in China,thus appearing the difference between China and the western countries.
