Differences between Japanese and Chinese Traditional Cultures from the Perspective of “Disrespecting Martial Arts” and “Respecting Martial Arts”

  • Before the modern times, the characters of the Chinese and Japanese feudal ruling classes were different in that the Chinese rulers were intellectuals who took official positions or set up dynasties with their culture and regarded the Confucianism as the moral basis of the feudal rulers while the Japanese rulers were persons of martial arts who took official positions with martial arts and regarded bushido as the moral basis of the feudal rulers. Therefore, one of the important differences between the Chinese and Japanese traditional cultures lies in "disrespecting martial arts" and "respecting martial arts".
