A Review on the Disturbance Caused by the Inclusion of the Lettered-words

As the lettered-words included in the sixth Modern Chinese Dictionary having caused academic disturbance,we point out that the debate is the result of the intensifying contradictions as follows:the Paternalism against the Descriptivism in Lexicography,the Principle of Economy against Iconicity and the divergence between protecting Chinese purity and promoting linguistic diversity.As the variant of standard Chinese characters and vocabularies,the lettered-words have a positive and profound impact on Chinese with part of them permeating into the modern Chinese vocabulary system.So it is rational and necessary to record the prevail parts of them in the Chinese dictionary.
