Absoluteness and Relativity of Dewey's “Education without Aims” and Its Enlightenment

  • Dewey thinks that education should be against any aims imposed from outside. In this sense,it's absolute that education has no aims.On the other hand,it is relative and conditional that education has no aims.He sets up three criteria for good aims. Therefore,Dewey's theory that education has no aims is a dialectical unity of relativity and absoluteness. The theory brings us such enlightment as education needs aims with some limitations and we should maintain the balance of these two aspects.
