Liang Qichao’s Thoughts about National Culture from the Viewpoint of Nation and State
-
Abstract
Liang Qichao thought that the national culture was the basis for the establishment and development of the nation and state. He
treasured Chinese traditional culture, but was against the viewpoint of the Guo Cui School(meaning Chinese Culture Quintessence School)
which made a far-fetched comparison between western learning and national studies; He recognized the status of Confucianism in the
national studies but he opposed making the Confucianism as the national religion, considering Confucius as the founder.Liang Qichao
advocated cultural pluralism, that is,accepting other cultures while carrying forward the Confucianism.
