Value, Dilemmas and Strategies for the Professionalization, Vocationalization, and Specialization of University Counselors

The professionalization, vocationalization, and specialization of university counselors are of great significance for fulfilling the fundamental task of cultivating students’ moral character and and facilitating the counselors’ own free and comprehensive development. This article analyzes the value and implications of the professionalization, vocationalization, and specialization of university counselors in ideological and political work in universities. It explores dilemmas faced by counselors’ career development, the “iceberg dilemma” hindering professionalization, the “volcano dilemma” impeding vocationalization, and the “mountain dilemma” specialization. It suggests that we should base ourselves on the career development patterns and the inherent requirements of ideological and political education. By addressing hidden shortcomings, implementing comprehensive evaluation, and promoting tiered training, we can build a professional quality cultivation system. By optimizing institutional supply, deepening professional identity, and strengthening support and guarantees, we can build a career development support system. Through knowledge empowerment, scientific research empowerment, and practical empowerment, we can build a core competency enhancement system to promote the professionalization, vocationalization, and specialization of university counselors, thereby providing solid support for building a solidifying and soul-casting ideological and political education system.
