The Empire in Hebei: A Historical Study on the Management of Hebei Region by the GengShi Regime

  • The Hebei region had a significant strategic position during the interval of Two Han Dynasties. The loss of Hebei was a crucial reason for the rapid downfall of the GengShi Regime. Following the collapse of the Xin Dynasty, the GengShi Regime vigorously managed Hebei and achieved specific results. However, with the rise of Wang Lang and the incident of Liu Xiu, the GengShi Regime ultimately lost the control of Hebei. The rapid corruption within the GengShi Regime, the lack of understanding of the situation, and improper personnel appointments were the primary reasons for its failure to manage Hebei. Nonetheless, its efforts to manage Hebei objectively played a significant role in laying the groundwork for Liu Xiu’s imperial enterprise in this region, and indirectly made a positive contribution to the establishment of the Eastern Han Dynasty.
