Dilemma and Breakdown: Analysis of the Clash Between the Kuomintang Cultural “Encirclement and Suppression” and the Communist Party’s Left Wing Cultural Movement
-
Abstract
During the period of the new democratic revolution, the cultural“encircle and suppression”carried out by the Kuomintang against the Communist Party of China and the left cultural movement under its leadership had its internal reasons and strategies. The Kuomintang’s military defeat, the Kuomintang’s desire to regain the right to speak of literature and art, and the exclusivity of Chiang Kai-shek’s cultural revivalism are the specific reasons for the Kuomintang to carry out cultural encirclement and suppression. The concrete strategies of its culture “encircling and suppressing” are shoplifting, using the past to replace the present, applying both soft and hard, and choosing nothingness. In this process, the Communist Party of China took adjusting the cultural front, clarifying ideological fallacies, exalting ideological enlightenment and grasping the pulse of society as the way to break the situation. While cracking the Kuomintang’s cultural “encirclement and suppression”, it more effectively promoted the sinicization of Marxism and the construction of China’s independent knowledge system.
