Practice and Thought on the Teaching Reform of “Decision Theories and Methods” From the Perspective of New Liberal ArtsA Case of Nanchang Hangkong University

  • Under the background of developing new liberal arts, the teaching contents, teaching methods and assessment methods of some courses of liberal arts should be reformed by learning from the advanced education and teaching mode of science and engineering. The purpose is to cultivate the students’ ability to understand, research and solve complex problems. “Decision Theories and Methods”, as a core course of management, should be an important part of the construction of new liberal arts courses due to its nature of being trans-disciplinary and practice-oriented. However, the circle of education and teaching has not paid enough attention to it. The major of public affairs management in Nanchang Hangkong University has actively carried out teaching reform of this course in three aspects of teaching content, teaching method and assessment method. The reform has achieved a good effect and relieved some problems such as overemphasis of theory over method in the content of teaching and teacher’s instruction over students’ exercises in the method of teaching, simplex method of course assessment, and so on. Students’ interest in course learning and their understanding and mastery of decision-making theories and methods, as well as their evaluation of teachers and the class, all have been significantly improved. This has accumulated some experience for the construction of new liberal arts courses for management majors.
