A New Solution to the Proposition“The South is Endless and Poor”

Hui Shi, a representative of famous scholars, has a theory of “ten events in history”, of which the sixth matter is “the south is endless and poor”. Opinions on it vary. To further clarify the interpretation of this sentence, it is necessary not only to contact Hui Shi’s era background and the scope of knowledge, but also to investigate and study the scope of subject knowledge involved in this sentence. From different perspectives of linguistics and natural philosophy, combined with Hui Shi’s thought of “name and reality” and constructing a systematic understanding through the method of explaining words and characters, we know that this “southern” actually has two meanings. The “infinity” is nominally infinite and the “finite” may belong to nominally finite and real finite.
