Cixun Hall and Concept of Mother Education With Literati in the Ming Dynasty

Abstract
Cixun hall was a special residence built by later generations to express their gratitude and memory for their mothers. They invited officials or celebrities to write poems for them, which had became a unique cultural phenomenon in the Ming Dynasty. Cixun hall not only reflected the life experience of the interdependence between mother and son, but also explained the popular mother education culture in Ming dynasty. Cixun hall in Ming dynasty had a close relationship with chastity concept, family education, imperial examination culture and so on, including personal reasons and regional factors. In the poems and essays of cixun hall, the author praised both mothers and sons, and expressed the personal concept of mother education, which further demonstrated the important role of traditional women in the process of imperial examination education for their descendants, and their roles in society.
