Chang Renxia ’s Research on the History of Chinese Early Music, Dance and Drama

Through ancient documents and modern archaeological discoveries, Chang Renxia discussed the origin, form and motivation of ancient music and dance and drama. Based on the historical materialism of labor creating music and dance and the progressive view of cultural development, he focused on the discussion of primitive music and dance performance forms, linked the origin, form, development and motivation of music, dance and drama with the labor life of primitive human beings, social progress and cultural development. His research on the history of early Chinese music, dance and drama has greatly enriched the research results in this field, and enriched the database for the study of ancient music and dance drama history. Many viewpoints have extremely important reference value. The deficiency of his research lies in that he did not elaborate on the essence and characteristics of Chinese ancient music and dance, nor did he give a clear demonstration on how the drama came into being from the primitive music and dance, and what kind of specific relationship between them.
