Wisdom of Marxist Philosophy in Resolving the Conflicts Among Civilizations

Different from the superiority theory of civilization, the conflict theory of civilization and the unitary theory of civilization, General Secretary Xi Jinping proposed that civilizations are characterized by equality, inclusiveness, diversity and openness. Different civilizations can have “mutual respect, beauty and common development, openness, inclusiveness and innovative development”. In this regard, China’s solution to the conflict between civilizations from the perspective of Marxist philosophical wisdom was analyzed. “Zero-sum thinking” and“isolated island thinking” need to be shifted to “community thinking”based on the reality that history has turned into world history. In contrast to the metaphysical view, the transition was emphasized from “clash of civilizations” to “mutual learning among civilizations”. “Single discourse” is transformed into “multidimensional discourse”, different from the unitary and homogeneous theories of civilization. The old western logic that “a strong country is bound to seek hegemony” should be broken and deconstructed, and the road of “peaceful development” should be taken.
