The Ecological Metaphor of Wildness in Le Clézio’s Works
-
Abstract
The binary opposition between man and nature, caused by materialism in the context of Western modern civilization and the pursuit of human poetic homeland, is the subject that Le Clézio has always put stress on. Through literary works, he criticizes the alienation of human and natural relations caused by modern urban civilization and materialism. Through poetic depiction of wilderness, children’s taking nature as their guide, and their instinctual love for it, he reveals the ecological metaphor of wildness, pointing out that being close to nature and loving it as a child does is an important way to get rid of the current crisis and restore a harmonious balance.
