The Heroine's Rebellion in Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit
-
Abstract
Jeanette Winterson creates a rebel who shares the same name as herself in Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit. Jeanette's rebellion and the growth of her independent consciousness are inseparably interconnected. She grows up to be a mature female with independent consciousness in the process of denying dogmatism in theology, challenging patriarchy in power relationships, and subverting the traditional heterosexuality in gender relationships.
