The Jiangxi Gentry and Jiangxi Education Modernization in the Late Qing Dynasty

  • Jiangxi gentry participated in the new school education activities, in the late Qing Dynasty, especially after abolish the imperial examination system, mainly due to those reasons, such as the demonstration of enlightened gentry, strict system of the Qing government, local officials' actively guide and encouragement and personal selfishness. They played a positive role in the field of creating a new school, raising funding for education, supervising the construction of the school and putting forward educational advice. Meanwhile, they also participated in the construction of professional educational institutions which had a modern significance. Those behavior played a pivotal role to the construction of Jiangxi's new educational system, the dissemination of modern western knowledge in Jiangxi province and the emergence of modern Jiangxi new intellectual group. In this sense, the Jiangxi gentry has made a significant contribution for the education of Jiangxi province and Jiangxi society modernization.
