-
Abstract
Pop music exerts influence on college students'value orientation because of its intrinsic characteristics. The interconnectivity of its entertainment and consumption leave a mark on the orientation of their entertainment and consumption, the interplay of its popularity and pleasantness on their aesthetic orientation, and the co-existence of its being mainstream and non-mainstream on their cultural preference. Meanwhile, campus folk songs have become a by-product of the students'value orientation towards pop music. It is argued in the paper that the government's participation, self-awareness of music composers, and pop music education in the college play critically important roles in the promotion of positive interaction between popular music and college students' value orientation.
