Ecofeminism From the Gender Perspective——The case of Tess of The D'Urbervilles and My Antonia

  • Ecofeminism is the result of combining ecology movement with women's liberation, which advocates the harmonious relationship between human and nature, men and women. Both of the two novels Tess of the D'Urbervilles and My Antonia use female images as the themes. The descriptions of nature and women in the two novels get widely attention after they were published. Male and female writers have different opinions and interpretations about women's images in their works. Most of women's images are the victims of patriarchal culture from male writer's perspective and they lose their speaking rights and bow to the subordinate status; while women's images from female writers' perspective appear to be more active. They are independent, dare to pursue careers and love. The thesis attempts to analyze the view of ecofeminism from different gender perspectives. It commits to pursue the freedom and equality between men and women, and the harmonious development of human and nature.
