Study on Manifestation and Restrictions of Chinese Female Translators' Subjectivity in 1900-1919

Translation process is the manifestation of a translator's subjectivity. Female translators in the beginning of 20th century followed the traditional role of translators as slaves, maintaining the outdated and conservative translation concept. As translation subjects, they failed to assert their subjectivity and identity in translation, being unable to apply their translation to present themselves or fight for equality. The paper concludes that China's distinctive social background and cultural context in the early 20th century serve as the objective influencing factors for restricting female translators' subjectivity.
