Silas Marner in the Perspective of Social Ecology

  • George Eliot depicts the imbalance of social ecology in Silas Marner. Through the realistic depiction of the lonely life of Silas Marner, she arouses readers' sympathy and thought over the predicament caused by the alienation between the individual and the society. The authoress also gives her way out:the past memory and the revival of human love rescue Marner from the extreme isolation and heal his psychological trauma. This provides an invaluable lesson for the individuals to come out of the imbalance of the social ecology.
