Impacts of heavy metals contamination in red soil on the ryegrass growth under the treatments of calcareousness

  • The physical and chemical properties of heavy metals contaminated red soil have been improved under the treatments of calcareousness. And the pH values of red soil were adjusted to 4.67~4.93 and 6.19~6.73 respectively by using two dosages of it. The biomass and the total heavy metal concentration of ryegrass, the available heavy metal concentrations of the test soil has been determined. And the correlation of heavy metals between the ryegrass and red soil has been analyzed. The results indicate that the growth of ryegrass has been improved after the treatments of limestone. When the pH of the test soil was above 6.0, the ryegrass growth was better. The available heavy metal ion impulse of red soil is the appropriate method to evaluate the correlation of heavy metal concentrations between the ryegrass and red soil.
