The joint properties and microstructure of copper by friction stir welding

  • This paper studied the feasibility of friction stir welding(FSW)for joining of copper, the welding process.Joint microstructure and properties of copper were analyzed.The results showed that defect free weld was produced on 6mm thick copper plate at optimum joining conditions.Besides, the experiment indicated that transverse tensile strength of FSW copper joint reached about 90% of that of the base metal and conductivity of the joint was approximately equal to that of the base metal.
