Fabrication and friction wear properties of network ceramics reinforced aluminum alloy composites

  • A new idea of met allic composites reinforcoed with three dimensional network ceramics(skeleton)is put forward. The aluminum alloy composites reinforced with three dimensional network ceramics(skeleton) is designed and fabricated. The sliding friction and wear properties of the composites are studied.Experimental results show that heavy load result in serious adhesive wear,micro-hardness decrease and sub-surface plastic deformation for the unreinforeed aluminum alloy. For the composites, the ceramics particles exposed on the sliding surface of the composites support the load, thus preventing the matrix from severe wear, and the wear rate of the composite against grinding ring is more than that of matrix, but the total wear rate of composite-GCr15 system is less than that of matrix-GCr15 system.
