Research on the Electroless Copper Plating on Carbon Fiber Surface after the Thermal Oxidation Treatment

Abstract
In this paper,the surface modifications of carbon fiber including the surface etching and the functional group changes after the treatment in different temperatures were investigated by thermal oxidation treatment method. The surface changes of carbon fiber were analyzed by the invasive height in 0. 5% methylene blue solution; the interface between carbon fiber and epoxy resin was characterized by the tensile tests of multifilament carbon fibers. The surface functional groups after the electroless copper plating were quantitatively researched by SEM,EDS and XRD. The experimental results show that the thermal oxidation treatment conditions of 300℃ and 1 hour are suitable,the electroless copper plating on carbon fiber are effectively achieved after the surface modification.
