Studies on the Correlation between Corrosion-induced Surface Morphology and Electronic Work Function in Al Alloys

  • In this study, the effect of corrosive behaviors on surface morphology and EWF of various Al alloys(5A02、5083、6A02) was comparatively investigated in 3.5% NaCl solution and 0.5% HCl solution using a scanning electron microscopy and a scanning Kelvin probe. The results showed that the choice of the corrosive solutions had an important effect on the surface roughness and the EWF.With an increase of corrosion time, the EWF was firstly increased and then decreased until it kept constant. The analysis results indicated that the change of the EWF was associated with the evolution of surface roughness.Furthermore,a rougher surface morphology corresponded to a larger EWF.
