Preparation and Properties of Zinc Oxide/Sunflower Oil Superhydrophobic Surface

  • In this paper, a uniform nano-sized zinc oxide superhydrophobic coating was formed on the surface of the iron sheet by simple heat treatment. The coating was formed by cross-linking the modified inorganic nanoparticles and sunflower oil at higher temperature. The coating formed a barrier between iron and corrosive substances and provided corrosion protection for iron. The influence of the ratio of sunflower seed oil to superhydrophobic nanoparticles on the wettability and adhesion of the coating was investigated, the following conclusions were drawn: When the mass ratio of oil to superhydrophobic nanoparticles was 0.9∶1, the performance of the coating reached a relatively balanced level in terms of wettability, stability and corrosion resistance, and the water contact angle on the surface of the coating was 158.1° ± 2.3° and the sliding angle was 5.1° ± 0.5°. After a long period of ultrasonic, abrasion and static and dynamic salt water corrosion treatment, it could maintain a good hydrophobicity. This work shows that the environmentally friendly, non-toxic micro-nano-scale superhydrophobic anticorrosive coatings are a kind of simple and effective material for metal anticorrosion, which will have wide applied prospects.
