3D Ultrasonic Imaging Method for Particle Segregation of Reinforcement in SiCp/Al Composites

  • In order to characterize the 3D space position and distribution characteristics of particle segregation of reinforcement in SiCp/Al composites, the 3D ultrasonic imaging method is studied. A SiCp/Al composite specimen with simulated SiCp particle segregation is prepared by powder metallurgy processing. Based on the theory of ultrasonic imaging, the correction and processing method for ultrasonic signal and the 3D ultrasonic reconstruction method for SiCp particle segregation is analyzed. 3D ultrasonic imaging of the SiCp/Al specimen is carried out, and the 3D space position and distribution characteristics of SiCp particle segregations are obtained. The results proved that, from the ultrasonic images of the specimen, it can be measured that the distances of the two artificial defects to the upper surface of the specimen are about 7.2 mm and 6.3 mm, and the sizes of the two defects are about 3.9 mm×2.1 mm and 4.3 mm×2.3 mm. The areas existing SiCp particle segregations that characterized by ultrasonic imaging are chosen in the specimen, and the material microstructures of these areas are analyzed by metallographic method. The microscopic features of SiCp particle segregations are observed.
