Preparation and Mechanical Properties of ZrO2-Cu-Al2O3 Composites

Abstract
The ZrO2-Cu-Al2O3 composites with ZrO2 addition varied from 0 wt% to 15 wt% were prepared by microwave sintering at 1 550℃, the microstructure and mechanical properties of the ZrO2-Cu-Al2O3 composites were analyzed. The results showed that when the addition of ZrO2 reached 10 wt%, the relative density, HV hardness, room flexural strength and fracture toughness reached 99%、16.5 GPa、482.5 MPa、7.3 MPa·m1/2, respectively. However, excessive ZrO2 additions (mass fraction>10%) finally degraded the mechanical properties such as HV hardness, room flexural strength and fracture toughness of the composites.
