Failure Analysis of Crack on the Pitot Probe

  • The crack was occurred on the pitot probe of aeroengine. Crack mode well as failure reasons were identified by the examination of failed pitot probe appearance, chemical composition analysis, microstructure analysis, mechanical properties analysis and analysis of fracture surface. The results show that the chemical composition was normal, mechanical properties and microstructure of the pitot met the requirements; The crack of the pitot probe was occurred by fretting fatigue. With the ways of designing equal strength or decreasing the front riveting holes front size to avoid produce fretting fatigue cracks and reduce the similar failure.
