Abstract:
Lithium aluminosilicate(LAS) glass-ceramics were prepared using the complex nucleation agents TiO
2/ZrO
2.Effect of nucleating agent compositions on the optical properties of LAS glass-ceramics was investigated. The crystallization kinetics and heat treatment process of LAS glass-ceramics were analyzed as a function of MgF
2 content. When the ratio of TiO
2 to ZrO
2 was equal to 1.5/2.5,the LAS glass-ceramic exhibited the most light in color, and had a relatively low crystallization temperature. The crystallization activation energy and crystallization index were increased with the addition of MgF
2,resulting in the decrease in the crystallization temperatures. The LAS glass-ceramics containing 0.5wt% MgF
2 was found to show the highest transparency. However, phase separation-induced cracks and opacity appeared when the amount of MgF
2 was more than 0.5wt%.With the pre-nucleation temperature increasing, the exothermic crystallization peak in the DTA curves of pre-nucleated samples gradually turn broad and weak,so that the optimal heat treatment temperatures should be taken as the onset temperatures at which broadening of the exothermic peak was observed.
