Fatigue Failure Analysis and Process Parameters Optimization of Gear

Abstract
Gear transmission has been widely used in aviation, machine tools, metallurgy, transportation and other fields, and the fatigue failure of gears may result in failure of the entire transmission system. In order to ensure the smoothness and reliability of gear operation, the process parameters of the carburized 20CrMnTi gear have been optimized. Firstly, the detailed failure mechanism analysis of tooth root bending fatigue and tooth surface contact fatigue was carried out. Based on this, the orthogonal test of gear fatigue was designed by Taguchi method. Then the gear fatigue test was carried out according to the design parameters, and the experimental data are analyzed by Minitab software. The analysis results show that the ranking of the factors affecting the fatigue performance of gears is as follows: the depth of carburized layer, the hardness of the core and the surface roughness, and the influence degree of the depth of carburized layer is much greater than the latter two.
