Characterization of Thermal-oxidative Aging and Fractograph of Polycarbonate

    • The mechanical properties and fractograph characterization of polycarbonate were researched by means of material testing machine, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) after thermal-oxidative aging experiments at 120℃~140℃. The results show that the strength and elongation decrease with the increase of temperature. And the fracture property is also changed from ductile fracture to brittle fracture with the increase of temperature. When the thermal-oxidative aging of polycarbonate reaches a certain extent, there will be voids morphology on the fracture surface. They are a kind of the fractograph characterization for the thermal-oxidative aging of polycarbonate.
