Failure Analysis on a Typical Corrosion of Air Conditioner Connecting Pipe
-
Abstract
A typical ant-nest corrosion was confirmed in the TP2 copper tube of air conditioner connecting pipe by SEM, EDS, ion chromatography and Optical Microscopy. And acceleration simulation test indicates that carboxylate radical was produced in insulating pipe (foamed plastics) under 80ml deionized water at 90℃. With copper added, the elementary carboxylate radical increased faster. Moreover, the ant-nest corrosion reappeared in copper tube with mixing foamed plastics. This ant-neat corrosion was different from ordinary ones. The corrosive media(carboxylic acid) is not from fats and oils, but from the foamed plastics which is stable under normal conditions. The results above can provide some references for future design.
