Abstract:
A heat-resistant stud fractured during the endurance test of diesel engine platform. Based on macro observation and fracture scanning, metallographic examination, chemical composition analysis, hardness test and simulation experiment, the fracture mechanism and cause were found. The results show that the failure mode of the stud is fatigue fracture under high cycle and low stress. In the process of operation, the force on the stud itself is small, but the folding defect of the screw bottom aggravated the stress concentration of the tooth bottom, leading to the initiation of fatigue crack. The fatigue crack propagated under the alternating load, leading to the ultimate fracture.
