Abstract:
The stable shear and compressive properties of the HN series of honeycomb made of aramid paper were tested. The shear and compressive behavior and failure mechanism were analyzed. The influence of the core size and density on the mechanical performance was studied. The results show the compressive and shear behavior of the honeycomb was nonlinear. The compressive strength of the honeycomb decreased slightly with the size of honeycomb core increasing. As the density of honeycomb increased, the stable compressive strength increased obviously, and the shear strength at the
L and
W directions increased linearly. The theoretical prediction formula for the shear strength by Zhang and Ashby can properly predict predicted the ration of the shear strength in the
L direction to the one in the
W direction.
